SENATE President Vicente Sotto 3rd on Wednesday took exception to Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel Piñol’s announcement that the government could no longer afford to sell subsidized rice once the Rice Tariffication Law takes effect.

The Senate chief, however, said that with the yearly P10-billion subsidy under the Rice Tariffication Law for farmers, Filipinos would not go hungry even without rice from the National Food Authority (NFA).
