THE Philippine Army received assault rifles and mortars from the United States, as part of the modernization program of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
The 80 assault rifles were a part of a grant by Washington under the Military Assistance Program while the 44 mortars were purchased from the US government under the Foreign Military Sales Program.
