THE Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) on Tuesday warned the public that improper handling of Philippine currency was punishable by fine and/or imprisonment.
In a statement, the central bank advised that the willful defacement, mutilation, tearing, burning or destruction of Philippine banknotes and coins were punishable by a fine of not more than P20,000 and/or imprisonment of not more than five years under Presidential Decree 247.
