It is commendable that on account of representations made by the Philippine government, the European Union and the government of Belgium are now moving to audit all the grants they provide to local non–government organizations (NGOs) due to allegations these are being used to finance the ongoing communist insurgency.

This is an important development that has deep implications for national security, as well as law and order in the country. It will definitely help the government’s current program to terminate the 50-year insurgency.
