Inflation, health top concerns of Filipinos – survey
TEMPERING the effects of inflation, followed by staying healthy are the biggest concern of Filipinos, the survey of OCTA Research for the last quarter of 2024 showed. The poll results, released Sunday, found that 56 percent of the 1,200 respondents listed inflation as their most pressing concern. Although still relatively high, OCTA said the figure is a significant drop from the 66 percent in the July to September survey. The high cost of commodities, with food remaining the major pain point, particularly in the Visayas and Mindanao, emerged as the biggest challenge at 44 percent. "Concern

Bargain-hunting seen but strong rally unlikely
BARGAIN-HUNTING could buoy the stock market this week but a significant rally is unlikely ahead of a clearer view of where monetary policy is headed, analysts said. The benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) ended Friday at 6,496.32, down 1.6 percent week-on-week and 0.8 percent since the start of the year. The market, Philstocks Financial Inc. research manager Japhet Tantiangco said, again fell below its 10-day exponential moving average and was "seemingly ... having a difficult time holding its ground above this line." Still, "last week's fall gives opportunities for

Tim Cone glad to have Jamie Malonzo as playoff nears
MANILA, Philippines — With just three games left on its elimination round schedule, Tim Cone is glad to have an added weapon on the floor with the return of athletic wingman Jamie Malonzo. Out for the last nine months due to a calf injury, the 6-foot-7 Malonzo made a triumphant return on Sunday that saw him contribute right points and three rebounds in 10 minutes as Barangay Ginebra rolled past Blackwater, 86-63. "For Jamie himself, it's been a long, long road for him. We'v watched him from the side seeing him and the work he's done so it's just a culmination of the
