A MAGNITUDE 7.2 earthquake struck Davao Oriental before noon on Saturday for which the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) issued a tsunami alert for coastal communities where minor sea level disturbances were expected.

The alert was lifted after Phivolcs’ last recorded wave was at 1:10 p.m. and the succeeding wave heights have returned to “normal tide level.”
