OLONGAPO CITY—Olongapo City police arrested on Sunday an Indian during an entrapment operation here Sunday for extorting millions of pesos from his compatriots.
Senior Supt. Orlando Maddella Jr., the Olongapo City chief of police, identified the suspect as Jugraj Singh, 26, of No. 26 Third Street, West Tapinac, this city.
Maddela said around 10 a.m. of Sunday, he received information from one Rajwinder Singh and his wife, of No. 12 Bonifacio Street, Pag-asa, this city, who complained that they were being threatened by a male person through the telephone, who identified himself as a certain Colonel Arnaldo and was exhorting money from them in the amount of P600,000.
According to the Singh' this person will kidnap any of their children and further threatened to kill them if they will not give the money at exactly 12 p.m. that Sunday.
Immediately, operatives of the Intelligence and Investigation Section of the Olongapo City Police Office, setup an entrapment operation to capture the extortionist.
The team was composed of SPO2 Ramon Fernandez, Rogelio Grueso, SPO1 Ricardo Elegido, PO3 Bernard Marsarina, PO3 Jerry Abaigar, PO1 Paulo Santos and PO1 Mariano Silvestre 3rd.
At exactly 7:45 p.m. of the same date, the suspect arrived at the residence of the complainants and picked up the money amounting to P550,000 in check which was previously marked for entrapment.
