MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) confirmed that the recent Mpox (monkeypox) cases reported in Davao City involved the same variant of the virus previously detected in the country.
According to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), the Clade II variant has been historically endemic in West Africa. It was first spotted in the Philippines in 2022 and considered milder than the Clade 1 variant.
