THE peso returned to the P56:$1 level on Friday following a Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) rate cut and as the dollar weakened in the wake of US President Donald Trump's tariff pause, while bargain hunting was said to have allowed the stock market to buck declines elsewhere in the region.

The currency strengthened by 38 centavos to P56.97 against the greenback and the benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) edged up 4.62 points, or 0.08 percent, to end the trading week at 6,082.44.
