TUGUEGARAO CITY — Cebu's best Mark Mahinay shone as bright as the scorching sun in Tuguegarao City on Friday after notching three gold medals in the athletics events of the 2025 Private Schools Atheltic Association (Prisaa) National Games here at the Cagayan Sports Complex.
The 23-year-old runner flaunted his endurance after topping the 10,000-meter event for his third gold medal in the meet. He clocked 32 minutes and 58.1 seconds in beating teammate Jhan Marc Dizon (33.58.1) and Michael Angelo Urbano of Ilocos (34.22.6).
"I am thankful. Despite that it was hard here, I was able to accomplish my goal, which is to earn triple gold. Even though I have not topped by personal best, at least I am the first one who crossed the finish line," Mahinay said in Filipino.
"It is just difficult here (pertaining to the hot and humid weather). I was catching my breath, and I find it difficult in the 5000m, what more in the 10,000. So, I am grateful," he added.
He won his first two golds in the 5,000m and 1,500m races.
Mahinay failed to win a fourth gold as the Cebuano team failed to make the podium in the 4x4 400m race which was ruled by Calabarzon runners Scott Norbie Arroyo, James Carlo Aganan, John Lloyd Pandi, and Jonathan Lorete.
Still a successful stint in the tournament, Mahinay said that he is looking forward to relax and recover after the games.
