THE student council of a high school or college in the Philippines serves as a platform for developing leadership and responsibility among its officers, as well as encouraging participation of the student population on campus and national issues.

At the University of Santo Tomas (UST), the election of officers for its Central Student Council (CSC) on April 7-12 was preceded by a debate between five candidates: Annie Agon (running for vice president), Nashville Mauricio (secretary), Joseph Coronel (auditor), and Nathan Blaza and Heavenly Nerizon (candidates for public relations officer).
