THE Department of Agriculture (DA) has imposed a temporary import ban on wild and domestic fowls from Belgium following a bird flu outbreak in that country.

Belgian veterinary authorities had previously notified the World Organization for Animal Health of an H5N1 High Pathogenicity Avian Influenza (HPAI) outbreak, detected on Feb. 17 among domestic birds in the city of Sint-Niklaas, Oost-Vlaanderen (East Flanders) town, and the Vlaanderen (Flanders) region.
