AS the world navigates rising tariffs, protectionist policies and geopolitical tensions, the Federation of Filipino Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry Inc. (FFCCCII) remains steadfast in its mission to foster resilient, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in the Philippines.
The ongoing 34th Biennial National Convention at the SMX Convention Center from April 3 to 6, 2025 brings together over 170 Filipino Chinese business chambers and associations nationwide — from Aparri to Tawi-Tawi — to chart a path forward amid global uncertainties.
The Chinese word for "crisis" is made up of two characters: "wei," which means "danger," and "ji," which means "opportunity." Therefore, the FFCCCII is hopeful that despite any global or other crises, the Philippines still has many golden opportunities for meaningful reforms and unimpeded progress.

Navigating global headwinds with innovation and unity
Under the theme "Technology, innovation and entrepreneurship: Keys to prosperity," the convention highlights strategies to strengthen the Philippine economy despite external pressures, including rising trade barriers and protectionism, geopolitical instability affecting supply chains, and the urgent need for self-sufficiency in key industries.
FFCCCII President Cecilio Pedro, a leading industrialist and philanthropist, emphasizes the importance of local innovation, entrepreneurship and sustainable policies to ensure the Philippines remains competitive.

"While global economic conditions are unpredictable, our commitment to nationbuilding has never wavered," said Pedro.
He added, "Through collaboration, technological advancement and a shared vision, we can build a more resilient economy that benefits all Filipinos."

A legacy of nationbuilding and social impact
For over 1,000 years, the Filipino Chinese community has been a driving force in the Philippines' development through trade and investment that spurred economic growth, cultural integration and social harmony, and philanthropy and disaster response.
The FFCCCII continues this tradition through impactful initiatives, including Operation Barrio Schools; with over 6,500 public school buildings donated nationwide, ensuring access to education in underserved communities; Filipino Chinese Volunteer Fire Brigades, providing free emergency response services to all Filipinos regardless of background; and disaster relief efforts through a rapid deployment of aid during typhoons, earthquakes and other calamities.

Strengthening the Philippine economy against global risks
To counter external economic pressures, the FFCCCII advocates for boosting local industries through the "Buy Pinoy" movement, reducing reliance on imports; enhancing trade partnerships with Asean, China, Japan, South Korea, the US and the EU while diversifying markets; digital transformation and innovation to improve efficiency and global competitiveness; and policy reforms to streamline business processes, attract investments and support micro, small and medium enterprises.
At the 2024 FOCAP Prospects Forum, Pedro outlined 12 key socioeconomic reforms, emphasizing job creation, agricultural modernization and infrastructure development as pillars of long-term stability.

Join the movement for a stronger Philippines
The 2025 FFCCCII National Convention is more than a gathering; it's a call to action for business leaders ready to adapt and innovate in a shifting global landscape, for entrepreneurs and startups to leverage technology for sustainable growth, and for policy advocates to push for reforms that ensure inclusive progress.
"Our strength lies in unity," Pedro stressed.

"By working together — Filipinos and Filipino Chinese alike — we can build an economy that withstands global challenges and creates opportunities for generations to come," Pedro added.
