Last week's data from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) confirmed what we at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) have long championed: the creative economy is a powerful force in our nation's development.

In 2014, the creative industries grew by 8.7 percent to P1.94 trillion, accounting for 7.3 percent of our gross domestic product, and employing 7.51 million Filipinos. This is only the second year that the PSA has gathered this data following the implementation of the Philippine Creative Industries Development Act, giving us crucial benchmarks to measure the growth of our creative sectors.
