THE Department of Health reported that all 426 rabies cases in 2024 resulted in deaths. Of these, 45 percent (193) were from domestic pet bites, with more than half having unknown vaccination status.

"We encourage our members to seek immediate medical attention if they are bitten or scratched by an animal. Rabies is fatal but can be prevented if vaccinated promptly," said Dr. Edwin Mercado, PhilHealth president and CEO.
