SC asked to stop implementation of automated election law

MANILA, Philippines — A legal battle over the country's election rules has reached the Supreme Court as a group of social media broadcasters and anti-fake news advocates challenged key provisions of the Automated Election Law.

The petition, filed on Wednesday by lawyer Mark Kristopher Tolentino and Dr. Michael Raymond Aragon on behalf of the Kapisanan ng Social Media Broadcasters ng Pilipinas, Inc. (KSMBPI), questioned the constitutionality of Section 11 of Republic Act 8346 as amended by Section 13 of Republic Act 9369.
