MANILA, Philippines — Bacolod Bishop Patricio Buzon described former president Rodrigo Duterte's detention in The Hague as a "special grace" and urged his supporters to see it as a spiritual opportunity rather than an act of political resistance.
The bishop said that Duterte, who turns 80 this week, is living on "borrowed time." He said that his incarceration could serve as a moment of reckoning and spiritual renewal.
