US nuclear energy firm Valar Atomics has taken initial steps to build a small, prototype reactor in Luzon for research and development.
"This is a pilot project for future commercial reactors [in the] Philippines... In terms of generating electricity, the reactor is only around 30 kilowatts of energy, which is very low... We're demonstrating the core physics at a very small scale, so there's extremely low risk," Valar president Kip MockMock said in an interview on Friday.
