THE country's current account deficit exceeded projections last year, the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) reported on Friday, widening to $17.5 billion from 2023's $12.4 billion and also surging past the central bank's $10.4-billion estimate.
"The current account continued to register a deficit as imports of goods rose to support domestic economic activity," said Redentor Paolo Alegre Jr., officer in charge of the BSP's Monetary Policy Subsector.
