ALL energy sources, whether renewable or traditional, are needed in the Philippines' journey to sustainability, a government official said at The Manila Times Economic Forum, "Engineering Global Growth Acceleration," held Wednesday at Dusit Thani in Makati.
"Energy technologies have their strengths and weaknesses... For renewables, it is heavy on capital expenditure, and the problem is that banks can give you loans only for a certain amount of time. If it goes beyond a certain threshold, it becomes an investment and there's a problem with that," said Energy Undersecretary Felix William Fuentebella.
