(UPDATE) HEAVY rains brought by a shear line affected some 44,058 individuals in Palawan and Oriental Mindoro, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Tuesday.A shear line is a convergence of warm and cool air.The figure represents 13,067 families from 64 villages in Palawan and Oriental Mindoro.Classes in eight areas in Palawan were suspended as well as works in six other areas due to floods.The government extended some P193,998 cash aid to Palawan residents.The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said it has recorded 341.7 mm of rain from Feb. 9 to 10, 2025, the heaviest rainfall logged in close to 50 years since a weather station was built in the area in 1948.The normal rainfall in Puerto Princesa City for February is 30.7 mm.The highest extreme rainfall for February was at 140.8 mm recorded on Feb. 16, 2012.The heaviest rainfall in the area, 269.3 mm, was recorded on Dec. 29, 1975.
