LEADING up to the deadline, there was no indication that there would be trades of superstars given that teams were concerned about the luxury tax, and most were trying to duck it. That all but crumbled when the Luka Doncic-Anthony Davis trade was announced. This heralded the movement of several players that shocked many, but overall it was a thrilling week for the league. Here are some of the biggest winners after the trade deadline:
Los Angeles Lakers — In what could be the most lopsided trade in recent history, the Lakers were able to grab five-time All-NBA guard Dallas Maverick Luka Doncic in exchange for the aging 10-time All-Star Anthony Davis. This trade left players, fans and pundits shocked since you just don't let go of a Most Valuable Player candidate (Doncic) that led your team to the recent Finals and is about to enter his prime. The Mavs traded Doncic since they "wanted more defense" and were frustrated with him due to his "conditioning issues." While maybe true, Davis is also injury-prone and is on the downside of his prime. The Lakers, mean-while, are now all set for the post LeBron James-era. The Lakers have pulled another magic trick out of their hat.
