THE national government (NG) ended 2024 with an outstanding debt of P16.05 trillion, the Bureau of Treasury reported on Tuesday, with P1.44 trillion having been added from a year earlier.

Measured against the economy, which grew by 5.6 percent last year, the country's debt to gross domestic product (GDP) ratio edged up to 60.7 percent from 2023's 60.2 percent. It was also higher than the targeted 60.6 percent in the government's medium-term fiscal framework.
