-- The IPv6 Forum Malaysia successfully hosted the "Cybersecurity for Energy & IoT: ERIA ERAB and CPSF Workshop 2025" at Hotel Maya, Kuala Lumpur. The event brought together distinguished experts and participants from Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia, Thailand and other countries across ASEAN.

With the endorsement of the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) and the Cyber Civilization Research Center (CCRC) at Keio University, Japan, the workshop served as a platform for fostering expert collaboration towards developing a robust Cyber and Physical Security Framework (CPSF) for IoT devices and energy systems in the region.

The workshop commenced with welcome addresses from Prof. Emeritus Dr. Sureswaran Ramadass, Chairman of IPv6 Forum Malaysia and APAC IPv6 Council; Mr. Naoto Okura, Director General for Research and Policy Design, ERIA; and Prof. Karen Morgan, President of RCSI & UCD Malaysia Campus (RUMC).

Keynote presentations were delivered by:

  • Prof. Ir. Dr. Khairul Salleh Bin Mohamed Sahari, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN), Malaysia
  • Prof. Masaki Umejima, Convener of the Development Plan – IEC System Committee Smart Energy, Japan

Additionally, the workshop featured a series of expert talks, including:

  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shankar Karuppayah, Deputy Director of the Cyber Security Research Centre (CYRES) at Universiti Sains Malaysia
  • Mr. Patrick Veron, SFC Forum Foundation, Japan
  • Ir. Ts. Mahesvaran Sibeperegasam, Lead (Emerging Solution), TNBX, Malaysia
  • Mr. Teguh Prasetya, Chairman of the Indonesia Internet of Things Association (ASIOTI)
  • Assoc. Prof. Wanchalerm Pora from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University, Thailand
  • Dr. Ary Setijadi Prihatmanto from Center for Excellence for Defense and Security Science and Technology, Bandung Institute of Technology, Indonesia

The event continued with an extensive panel session chaired by Dr Navaneethan C. Arjuman from Multimedia University, Malaysia, focusing on the Policy and Regulatory aspect of Cyber and Physical Security Framework for Energy and IoT sector. He was joined by an esteemed panel of experts consisting of:

  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Shankar Karuppayah

The event concluded with a Closing Speech by Mr. Akinori Kahata, Deputy Director of the Electricity Industry and Market Office, Agency for Natural Resource and Energy, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Japan.
