THE day after I turned 65, on Jan. 15, 2025, Fr. Alejandro "Alex" Galo Jr., a Catholic priest, figured in a vehicular accident that claimed his life. He was relatively young at 66. He left a legacy of preaching and action that raised defiance against threats to the integrity of God's creation, including the environment. His core message was upholding the dignity of each human person.

Fr. Alex and I grew up as one of the closest among friends while attending elementary and high school in our hometown of Maydolong, Eastern Samar.
