2024 was the worst year on record for seafarer abandonment, and Filipinos were the fourth highest nationality among those abandoned.
This is according to the International Transport Workers' Federation (ITF), citing the latest data it released on Jan. 27, which revealed that the abandonment of seafarers by shipowners increased by 87 percent in 2024 from the previous year.
