IN the past few weeks, California was literally in flames. Entire neighborhoods were reduced to ashes. The scenes on television news showed us hellish fires and flying embers blown by heated winds to further spread the raging inferno. The raging fire was indiscriminate. It consumed whatever stood in its way.
As we witnessed this massive disaster hit the mightiest economy with the strongest military in the world, we wonder how the Philippines will fare in the face of such calamity. While we have not been strangers to all kinds of natural and manmade disasters, our level of preparation needs to be assessed all the time.
