In the '90s, an ice cream brand came out with a commercial that had the tagline: 'Sinong bespren mo doon?' It is definitely a classic, as it still plays in my head and perhaps in most people's heads who are old enough to remember that commercial to this day. I think what makes it stick like ice cream on your fingers (besides the actors' delivery, IYKYK) and so relatable is the fact that everyone surely had a best friend during different stages in their lives. I, for one, had different best friends from grade school to high school to college and in my different stages as a yuppie. Speaking of best friends, my high school best friend is in town. JR and I go a long way back. We've been friends since grade school and became best friends in high school. We became super close to the point that we lived literally next door to each other in high school, naturally spilling over our closeness to our immediate families. My mother would always speak fondly of him. He's like family. By the way, say 'each other' if you're talking about two people or things and 'one another' for more than two people or things. Going back, JR was there during the most difficult times in my life when my father passed during my senior year in high school, and I never had the chance to thank him for it just because boys don't do that. So, now that I'd like to think of myself as a gentleman, I'd like this piece to be my way of immortalizing my eternal gratitude to him for having my back in high school and all these years. He's visiting from New Zealand, where he works, and has established himself as a nurse. I'm glad he finally found his calling after quite a rollercoaster ride in college, trying to navigate his way through life. Quite proud of the guy! And I'm glad to have spent some time with him and introduced him to my partner on a trip to Gen San, which also felt like traveling back in time to the good old days. Until next time, bespren!
