I ALREADY called out in this space last Jan. 21 the blatant lies being peddled by religious conservatives about Senate Bill 1979, which proposes a law that would provide for a national policy in preventing adolescent pregnancies, institutionalizing social protection for adolescent parents, and providing funds therefor. Most egregious of these lies is the accusation that the bill aims to teach children how to masturbate and how to try experiencing all types of sexual pleasures, otherwise known as grooming.

I have personally read the entire text of the bill, all 24 pages of it, and nowhere in its text could the word "masturbation" be found. And instead of finding any evidence of a policy that would allow the teaching of children to experience all types of pleasures, what I saw was a document that celebrated inclusivity and consultation, and where cultural sensitivity and age-appropriateness were repeatedly referred to.
