EXPECTATIONS of higher prices induce increased spending in essential goods, which can drive inflation during periods when it exceeds the target, a Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) study showed.
"Anticipations of rising prices prompt households to increase their planned consumption, especially for food and non-alcoholic beverages, fuel, and utilities," the BSP said in its discussion paper.
