Ejay Yatco: From funeral pianist to award-winning musician

CULTURE CAROUSEL

Our featured artist today is award winning composer and music director Ejay Yatco. He is a singer, pianist and arranger and a professor at the Ateneo de Manila University. He is the genius behind musical hits such as 'Buruguduystunstugudunstuy: Ang Parokya ni Edgar Musical;' Tanghalang Pilipino's 'Pingkian: Isang Musikal;' and just recently, Repertory Philippines' 'Going Home to Christmas: A Jose Mari Chan Musical,' among many others.

We had a chance to interview him, and I would personally like to thank his sister Ace Yatco, for helping us make this interview come true.

Ejay Yatco began his career as a funeral pianist until a producer gave him his big break by commissioning a musical based on Sugarfree’s songs. PHOTOS COURTESY OF ACE YATCO
