I HAVE this yearly tradition of throwing a surprise party for my partner for his birthday. And because it has been a tradition, you could imagine how hard it is to pull one off every year, right? Well, I love the challenge. And I have learned that effective communication is key. First, I scouted for the perfect venue which I think was crucial. The venue can make or break your party. I made sure the place was convenient for guests and served great food, of course. I love places where everyone can just lounge, catch-up and just really have a good time. This year's choice was one of our recent favorite coffee shops, Find Me Coffee in Makati. I couldn't be any more satisfied with their customer service. After finalizing the venue, I got to the guest list. You start from a grand list that you expect to be cut in half, usually. So, make sure to strictly have them send you an RSVP. This is especially important for your logistics and budget planning. You don't want a room full of hungry and sweaty guests, do you? Be sure everyone is fed, comfortable and happy. It's not rocket science, really. By the way, remember that 'everyone,' even if you mean more than one person, is always singular. Going back, after taking care of all these, now, you can party. I had a field day finalizing all these through the convenience of my phone and in the comfort of my home. Thank God for technology. By the time this is published, I hopefully would have pulled off another successful surprise -- fingers crossed.
