IN a dream, I imagined some of the more prominent candidates for the senatorial race in May got together for a night of karaoke.

Benhur Abalos, who is on billboards and buses all over Metro Manila, was singing "Every Breath You Take" by the Police — the ultimate song about stalking — when I first arrived at the party. There was polite applause from the audience, many of whom must have been a little envious of the funds he must have at his disposal to attain such ubiquity.
