The peso resumed a decline against the dollar on Thursday and the stock market, which mostly traded higher for the day, plunged as investors chose to take profits.

The currency weakened by three and a half centavos to P58.61:$1 while the benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) lost 64.94 points, or 1.03 percent, and closed at 6,265.52.
