The Philippine Coast Guard confronts a Chinese ship and blocks its attempt to encroach into the country's exclusive economic zone near Zambales on Jan. 11, 2025. It is the eighth confrontation in the disputed waters between the two countries as Beijing refuses to recognize the arbitral ruling that gives Manila jurisdiction over areas defined by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and insists that its claims are supported by a historic nine-dash line that lays claim to almost the entire South China Sea.
