The Pinoy Playlist Music Festival (PPMF) 2024 gears up for a night dedicated to honoring the remarkable contributions of Filipino music legends through the Ryan Cayabyab Awards.
Through the years, PPMF has celebrated the rich and diverse landscape of Filipino music. Established to honor the artistry and talent of Filipino musicians across genres and generations, the festival continues to evolve — now with collaborations to bridge community, tradition and culture while fostering a deeper appreciation for original Pinoy music and seeing what emerges.
On Jan. 16, at the Maybank Performing Arts Theater, BGC Arts Center, two iconic names in the Filipino music industry will take center stage: Celeste Legaspi and Odette Quesada. Known for their exceptional artistry and timeless music, they have left an outstanding impact on the Philippine music scene.
Quesada is a celebrated Filipino singer, songwriter, and music producer, widely recognized for her influential contributions to the Philippine music industry. Often called the "Queen of Philippine Pop Ballads," she gained fame with her powerful voice and deeply emotional performances. She is known for her evocative songwriting, making her songs timeless, and continues to be beloved by generations of fans.
Beyond her success as a performer, her impact extends through her role as a mentor and advocate for the local music scene. Her soothing vocal talent and unforgettable songs continue to inspire and shape the careers of future generations of Filipino artists.
Meanwhile, Legaspi is a renowned Filipino singer, actress, and theater producer, known for her significant impact on the Philippine music and performing arts scenes. Rising to prominence in the 1970s, she became one of the country's most celebrated vocalists, with a distinctive style that blends Filipino traditional music with pop and jazz influences. Some of her most popular songs include "Saranggola ni Pepe," "Mamang Sorbetero," and "Tuliro," which remain beloved classics.
Her work as a mentor and advocate for Pinoy musical artistry has made her a respected figure in the industry, inspiring countless Filipino artists and helping elevate Filipino culture on a broader scale.
The PPMF 2024 Ryan Cayabyab Awards will also feature heartfelt tribute performances from celebrated artists such as Arman Ferrer and Mike Shimamoto, who will perform to honor Quesada; and Mitch Valdes and Aicelle Santos who will pay tribute to Legaspi.
Three other exceptional music artist s — Lutgardo Labad, Gilopez Kabayao, and Joel Navarro — were honored as Ryan Cayabyab Awardees in Nov. 15 and 16, 2024.
