Toyota now has plug-in hybrid Alphard

TOYOTA continues its journey toward electrification through a multi-solution approach, recognizing that different regions transition to electric vehicles (EVs) at varying speeds. Enter the new 2025 Toyota Alphard PHEV (plug-in hybrid EV), which aims to meet the demand for a luxury MPV with a decent electric range while still offering the reassurance of a gasoline engine.

The main highlight of the 2025 Toyota Alphard PHEV is its new 2.5-liter plug-in hybrid drivetrain. Borrowing the same 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle Dynamic Force engine from the Alphard Hybrid available in the Philippines, this version produces 177 horsepower (hp), down from the 188 hp in the regular hybrid, because its electric motors are far more powerful. The front electric motor alone delivers 180 hp, while the rear motor produces 54 hp. True to Toyota's practice, the total system output — 302 hp — is not simply a sum of each motor's figures, as both the electric motors and the engine reach peak power at different engine speeds. Still, at 302 horses, it outperforms the Alphard Hybrid's 248 hp.
