Eala advances to semis at Canberra International

Alex Eala of the Philippines reached the semifinal round in her first major tournament of the year, the Canberra International women's tennis tournament in Australia on Thursday.

In the quarterfinals, the world number 147 Eala outplayed world number 170 Taylah Preston of Australia in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, surviving an early lead by her rival.
