ACCORDING to a report released last month by the climate and insurance think tank Insure Our Future, losses attributable to climate change — some $600 billion — have made up about a third of all insured weather losses worldwide over the past 20 years, and the amount is growing. With the world now having passed the threshold of 1.5 degrees Celsius of warming over the preindustrial global average temperature, there is growing concern that insurance losses may become unsustainable, adding to the economic stress the climate crisis is already creating.
