FORMER US president Jimmy Carter, who died on Dec. 30 at the age of 100, is regarded by history as one of America's least impressive presidents, but one of its finest men. Had he never been president, he would still be showered with accolades for his work as a humanitarian and statesman, all well-deserved, but he should be acknowledged as being perhaps the most consequential American leader on the world stage in the 20th century.
