Even if developments in generative artificial intelligence (AI) slow as the current model reaches the limits of the human-generated material it feeds on, international regulation and data protection will likely continue to lag behind. The use of AI-enabled surveillance, such as facial recognition, against activists is likely to increase and become more normalized. The challenge of disinformation is likely to intensify, particularly around conflicts and elections.
