TODAY'S column will be a bit off-topic from my usual fare, as it is being composed early on Christmas morning. I hope everyone is having a pleasant holiday, poor weather notwithstanding.

Over the past few days, United States President-elect Donnie Dipstick has spent a considerable amount of time running his mouth, in text form on his own social media platform and in at least one significant speaking engagement, about foreign countries or parts thereof that he would like the US to seize after he takes office on Jan. 20. This started a few weeks ago with what seemed at the time to be a tongue-in-cheek comment about making Canada "the 51st state," and now includes Panama — or at least the portion that used to be known as the Canal Zone — and Greenland, which was a target for a brief period during his first term in office.
