THE four House committees on dangerous drugs, public order and safety, human rights, and public accounts want former president Rodrigo Duterte and several close political associates criminally prosecuted for "crimes against humanity" following their extended hearings on his drug war, offshore gaming, and the illegal drug trade.
This is by far the biggest blow to hit the Duterte camp. This threatens to become much bigger with the filing of a third impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte in the House of Representatives. If the total number of filers rises to one-third of all the members of the House, the verified articles of impeachment are automatically forwarded to the Senate for trial without the need for a House floor debate. Apparently, the third complaint failed to produce the needed numbers, so the Duterte camp has gained some "breathing space."
