CEBU CITY — Dismissed Mandaue City mayor Jonas Cortes slammed the Commission on Elections (Comelec) Second Division for canceling his certificate of candidacy (COC) for the 2025 midterm elections, calling it "a big mistake."

The Comelec decision, based on a copy obtained by The Manila Times on Friday, Dec. 20, stated that Cortes had committed "material misrepresentation" by not declaring in his COC his dismissal order from the Ombudsman and falsely declaring his eligibility to run as mayor of Mandaue City in 2025.
