THE National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) and the Philippine World War II Memorial Foundation (PhilWar Foundation) will hold an international conference for the 80th anniversary of World War II titled "War & Memory: 80 Years After" at the Lyceum of the Philippines University in Intramuros, Manila, on Feb. 18 and 19, 2025.
The conference coincides with the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in the Philippines, which will be commemorated throughout 2025.
Historian James Zobel from the MacArthur Memorial Museum and Library will deliver the keynote lecture.
Conference topics include papers on "Prelude to War (Pre-1941)," "Philippine Defense Campaign (1941-1942)," "Japanese Occupation in the Philippines (1941-1945)," "The Rise of the Resistance," "Liberation Campaign (October 1944 to September 1945)," "Post-War Situation, Problems, and Issues," and "Memorialization and Legacies of the War."
This conference is convened by Ricardo Jose of the University of the Philippines Diliman Department of History and Desiree Ann Benipayo of the Philippine World War II Memorial Foundation and Memorare Manila 1945 in partnership with NHCP.
NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote Philippine history through its museums, research and publications and to preserve historical heritage through conservation and the marking of historic sites and structures.
