GENERAL TRIAS CITY, Cavite — Thousands of local tourists and residents witnessed the weeklong celebration of the 9th cityhood and 276th founding anniversary over the weekend here.
The local government, led by Mayor Luis Ferrer IV and Vice Mayor Jonas Labuguen, paid tribute to General Mariano Closas Trias, laying flowers at the hero's monument in Barangay 1896.
The mayor and residents also laid flowers at the Historical Marker of the church of San Francisco de Asis in Barangay Bagumbayan here.
Ferrer and Dr. Emmanuel Calairo of the Cavite Historical Society also signed an agreement on the creation of a coffee table book on the history of the city during the weeklong event.
Thousands of individuals attended The GenTri Music Festival on Dec. 7, 2024, at the General Trias Sports Park in Barangay Santiago, featuring local bands Join the Club, Soap Dish, Sunkissed Lola, I Belong to the Zoo, Sponge Cola, and Orange and Lemons.
Also featured was musical program, Labong, on Dec. 11 at the Convention Center. The renewal of vows was also held for 51 couples who have been married for 50 to 70 years at the Ballroom of Bayleaf Hotel in Barangay Manggahan. The LGU gave each couple P10,000 as a gift.
General Trias City, formerly called San Francisco de Malabon, became a component city on Dec. 13, 2015. It was founded on Dec. 12, 1748.
The city is named after Gen. Mariano Closas Trias, the country's first vice president and a Filipino revolutionary at the turn of the 20th century.
The Valenciana Festival which highlighted the weeklong festivities, stands as a remarkable local celebration, paying homage to the rich cultural heritage of General Trias while showcasing the city's renowned culinary masterpiece, "Valenciana."
The Filipino style Paella-like rice dish, deeply cherished by the community and symbolizes the culinary traditions.
