MANILA, Philippines — The statement 'ball is life' is often used as a meme. But for NCAA Season 100 Rookie of the Year and Freshman of the Year Chris Hubilla, ball is really life as basketball was his way out of poverty.

Mapua University's 6-foot-4 forward has always been open in interviews on his adversities during his early life, and how he kicked and screamed his way through it.
