Here's a quick one. If you still don't know by now, I'm also a content creator. And yes, I focus on grammar with a mix of lifestyle. Wow! How did you know? Anyway, I was tagged in one post on TikTok this morning by a few of my wonderful viewers, which absolutely made me shake my head in disbelief so vigorously I thought I'd develop vertigo. The content creator was a Filipino who was living somewhere in North America and was the type who would flaunt it like there was no tomorrow. Typical, I know. Nothing wrong with being proud of your accomplishments, of course, but what I found grossly problematic with this particular content creator's attitude that I made sure I took to the pen was how she was using her privilege as an excuse for not lifting a finger to learn proper English just because, as she claimed, people in North America didn't care about what or how non-native speakers spoke, even mimicking her speech, exaggeratedly murdering her English to prove her point. It was difficult to watch, and she thought she did something there. Her short message was that it was OK not to learn how to speak proper English for as long as you can be understood somehow. Well, it is NOT OK. Never undermine the importance of learning, and don't generalize your experience to everyone. Discrimination is everywhere. If you don't feel like you need to learn proper English, have it your way. But leave those who want to learn alone. Huwag tularan!
