THE cinemas are bursting! And I'm loving it! It feels like we've moved on from the pandemic faster than Joy has moved on from Ethan or Elphaba can ride her broomstick, both of which I still haven't seen, by the way! But it doesn't really feel like I'm missing out because of all the real-life drama that is on the news today if you know what I mean! Oh! Bring out the popcorn! In one of the 'grilling' sessions, a member of Congress was heard saying: 'So, Mr. Chair, are you saying you seated in one car while she seated in another?' Now, don't get me wrong, Mr. Chair's questioning was on point, sharp even! But it was the way 'seated' was used in this sentence that needed questioning. You see, 'seated,' when used as a verb, as in this case, is transitive, so it needs an object to 'transfer' the action to, hence its name. That said, it would be correct to say: 'So, Mr. Chair, are you saying you seated yourself in one car while she seated herself in another?' with the reflexive pronouns 'yourself' and 'herself' absorbing the action. That would be all, Mr. Chair!
