King Charles III welcomed the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, at a state banquet at Buckingham Palace, hailing the "profound, personal and historic" ties between the UK and the middle eastern nation. Charles impressed the 150 guests, including David and Victoria Beckham, at the lavish dinner, welcoming the visiting dignitary with the traditional Arabic greeting, "Assalamu-Alaykum." He also noted the Emir's "tireless mediation efforts over the past year in pursuit of peace" and the two nation's work on science and technology. The Emir responded by also citing the strong ties between their two nations and paid tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II.
